Twice-Told Tales, Iron Horse Literary Review, Special Issue 2012
I don’t know why someone hasn’t thought of this before. ILHR published this special issue with three tales written by Nathanael Hawthorne, each followed by re-dos of Hawthorne’s tales set in more contemporary times. Doubly clever, since Hawthorne’s stories were published in a collection called Twice-Told Tales.
I have to give kudos to the three updaters: Gina Ochsner, Toni Jensen and Edith Perlman who captured the paranormal, mysterious feel of Hawthornes stories, even in a prose remarkably like his, although unique to each writer.
If you don’t read but one litmag all year, make it this one.
